All About RS 232.

Among the many serial data interfaces in the current electronics operation is the RS 232. However, not many people understand what they actually do. With the introduction of new technology, new ports for USB, HDMI, and THUNDERBOLT have been introduced. With this new technology, many have assumed that the legacy interfaces are no longer useful. However, there isnt any truth in that. When it comes to the RS 232 serial data interface, apart from it being the oldest it is still the most popular as well. The standards for use in industries were standardized in the 1960s by the Electronic Industries Alliance. After 2011, the alliance has not been active. However, the standard selected was RS. It was quite the list and it also included RS 232. Given that these were standards agreed for in the whole world, all PCs have RS 232. However, it is not something you can point at or touch. It is what does information receiving and packaging in the ports. From there, the data is transferrable to a computing system or even a printer. Any port that uses the RS 232 data transmission is a serial port. Apart from the serial ports, there are parallel ports as well. For serial ports, the data transmission is one piece after another. However, parallel ports will do data transmission in 8-bit bytes. If you want the RS 232 cable, you should go for the standard serial cable. You can easily identify it by the little screws at the sides and also the fact that it extends from the tower the monitor. These cables are seen in computer terminals, printers, spectrometers, barcode scanners, and strain-tension gauges. Additionally, there are the same cables in GPS receivers, stenotype, stenograph, industrial, fieldbuses and even flat screen monitors. The data originates from the computer tower and it is then picked up by the RS 232 through the serial port to the computer monitor where it will be displayed as an image. With all it can do, the RS 232 also comes with its limitations. When it comes to RS 232 cables, they do not go beyond three feet and if you want to transfer data in a distance longer than that you will have to find another option. Even so, it does not mean the alternatives are fool-proof. The process is slowed when the cable is long and the probability of interruptions is high too.
